The Future Has Already Been Programmed… Here’s what it says about improved ideation.
Stephen Wood, Senior Product Manager @ Tripwire

Technology does not evolve randomly. It is a biologically based, self-assembling system. If you know the rules for construction, it is possible to understand where is the next big thing. In this presentation, I will focus on findings that describe ways to improve ideation. As a demonstration of what is possible, I will also describe the next Internet scale disruption/convergence.

For about 30 years, I have been working in various product manager roles. I’ve been on the front lines to see the emergence of the PC, local area network, wireless networking, cellular telephony, the smart home and the smart grid. In my various roles, it was essential to anticipate events rather than to react to them. In 2001, I began developing a series of models to explain recurring patterns of behavior that I observed in the market. Today, this has evolved into an extensive series of models that explain the evolutionary processes of technology and which provide multiple methods for anticipating events. Some of these are as large as major displacements across multiple market sectors. Some are small scale such as knowing what new functionality a competitor is going to add before the competitor has decided.

Presently, I am working as a strategic product manager for Tripwire. My responsibilities there involve the development of product strategy for cloud based security products.
